Sing-a-long Sunshine on Leith + Live Music

Saturday 24 January | 7.30pm | Leith Theatre

LeithLate, Cinetopia and Leith Theatre present a sing-a-long screening of the musical jukebox film Sunshine on Leith. Featuring the hits of The Proclaimers, this part-screening-part-gig will include live music from Riley Briggs (Aberfeldy) and friends after the film.

Sunshine on Leith is a romantic musical released in 2013, directed by Dexter Fletcher. It follows the story of two friends returning from the army and settling back into life in sunny Leith. Get yer singing voice ready, as the soundtrack is crammed with The Proclaimers' best tunes. You won't be able to resist tapping your toes and singing along!

The film is rated PG and will be subtitled throughout in English. Food and drink will be available during the event.

Doors open 7pm, screening starts at 7.30pm.

This screening is part of BFI Musicals! The Greatest Show on Screen, a UK-wide film season supported by National Lottery, BFI Film Audience Network and ICO.

LeithLate Mural Tour

LeithLate’s ever-popular Mural Tours are back for 2020. Your guide Cameron Foster will show you the highlights of Leith's murals and street art and you will have the opportunity to meet the artists behind one of Leith's best loved public artworks.

This event precedes the Leithers Sunday Matinee at Leith Theatre which features rare footage of the making of Leith History Mural which you will visit on the final stop of the LeithLate Mural Tour. Get your tickets for both events to make a day of it!

Please note the tour lasts 1 hour 30 mins and will start at the Leith Aquatic Mural on Halmyre Street, finishing at the Leith History Mural next to Leith Theatre.

Leithers Sunday Matinee

Sunday 2 February | 2pm | Leith Theatre

LeithLate, Cinetopia and Leith Theatre present a special afternoon screening of the 1988 documentary film 'Leithers' by Alistair Scott exploring life in Leith in the 1980s.

'Leithers' documents the people who lived and worked in Leith during the eighties and examines the changing socio-economic landscape of Leith at that time. The film screening will be introduced by film-maker Alistair Scott, Associate Professor of Film & TV at Edinburgh Napier University. The screening will also be accompanied by a short compilation of archive footage of Leith from the National Library of Scotland's Moving Image Archive and will be followed by a short panel discussion about Leith's past, present and future.

Doors open at 1.30pm and the screening starts at 2pm. Food and drink will be available. Book tickets with our new pay-what-you-can ticket scheme or pay on the door.

This event is supported by Edinburgh Napier University and Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI’s Film Audience Network, and funded by Screen Scotland and Lottery funding from the BFI. LeithLate is supported by City of Edinburgh Council and Baillie Gifford.

Light-up Leith History Mural

Saturday 8 February | 7pm-10pm | Leith History Mural

LeithLate and Double Take Projections present a unique outdoor projection event revitalizing and animating Leith’s much-loved History Mural for one night only.

Tim Chalk and Paul Grime’s mural created in 1986 depicts Leith's rich and varied social history. As part of this event Double Take Projections - the creative team behind Edinburgh's Castle's recent Castle of Light spectacular - will artistically re-imagine the mural through light projections using the artists' original artworks.

Projections will run throughout the evening on a loop so come anytime between 7-10pm. Leith Theatre’s main auditorium will be open serving food and drink.

Attendance is free and booking is not required. The mural is located on the corner of Ferry Road and North Junction Street, next to Leith Library and Leith Theatre.

Pop-up Exhibition: The Making of Leith History Mural

Fri 24 Jan-Sat 8 Feb | Leith Library

LeithLate presents a small pop-up exhibition about the making of the Leith History Mural, featuring never-before-seen archives and original works by artists Tim Chalk and Paul Grime.

The Leith History Mural, created in 1986 following extensive local community engagement, depicts Leith's rich and varied social history. It is located on the corner of Ferry Road and North Junction Street, next door to Leith Library.

The exhibition is on display in Leith Library’s entrance hall and is free to visit during normal library opening hours (please note the library is not open on Sundays).
